Youth Caregivers of Adults in the United States: Prevalence and the Association Between Caregiving and Education
Miller KEM, Hart J, Rosania MU, Coe NB; Youth Caregivers of Adults in the United States: Prevalence and the Association Between Caregiving and Education. Demography 1 June 2024; 61 (3): 829–847.
This study found that about 9.2% of young people (15-18) and 12.7% of young adults (19-22) in the U.S. are caregivers. These caregivers are less likely to be in school and spend less time on education compared to their non-caregiving peers. The study highlights the need for policies to support young caregivers and their education.
